Select one of the poems in the assigned readings by Donne, Herbert, Marvell or Wroth that was not analyzed in class.

Paraphrase the sense in your own words, stanza by stanza, emphasizing beginning, middle, end, turning point and/or climax.

Discuss one metaphor that fits Tesauro’s description (pp. 1707-9), describing how it is ingenious, marvelous and delightful.

Enumerate and explain ways that sound in the poem reinforces sense.  Include a description of the poem’s meter and rhyme scheme, pointing out patterns of regularity and variations from those patterns. Try to discover meaningful connections between the rhythmic variations and the meaning of passages or words where they occur.
