Peter Raven is a botanist, an ecologist, a world leader in promoting environmentally responsible citizenship.

He was named A Hero for the Planet by Time Magazine. An article about him in Discover is titled, Peter the Great. He's served as Chair of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was appointed a MacArthur Fellow (The Genius Award). Together with Paul Erlich, he developed the theory of Coevolution in the 1970's. More articles by and about Dr. Raven can be found here.

His lecture to members of the University Community and the general public addresses some of the most pressing issues of our time.      

During his visit to Cal Poly he studied challenges faced by the University in its efforts to advance Biodiversity and Sustainability through education, research, and institutional behavior. 

Dr. Raven toured the campus, met with senior officials and representatives of groups engaged in these efforts, and offered his suggestions for future progress.  

Instructors of classes dealing with issues of Biodiversity and Sustainability were urged to discuss and give credit to students attending this important educational event.
